"We are delighted that Richard and Dwyer are undertaking this huge challenge to raise money for ActionAid. The money that they raise will enable thousands of the world's poorest people to build a better future for themselves and their families. Thanks to Richard and Dwyer's support, more communities will have access to clean water, food security, HIV/AIDS treatment and education. On behalf of everyone at ActionAid - thank you and good luck!"

This international charity played major roles in the Make Poverty History Campaign, Live8 and rebuilding of communities following the Asian Tsunami disaster. The key areas that ActionAid tackle are: Education, Health, HIV/AIDS, Women's Rights and Gender Equality, Food Rights, Access to Clean Water and Humanitarian Disasters and Conflict.
ActionAid is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to realising the right of over 13 million people living in poverty. They are currently active in over 40 countries throughout Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. ActionAid is a global network, working alongside over 2,000 partner organisations world-wide, building on their in-depth knowledge of local situations, conditions and politics. Their international secretariat is located in Johannesburg, South Africa, and almost 90% of their 2,500 directors, managers, and ActionAid staff are themselves from developing countries. |
The charity has voiced their enthusiasm and interest in the project, both providing aid and advice to this self-organised trip.
Please note that all the money raised goes to ActionAid - none goes towards the funding of this trip.
ActionAid work specifically with poor and vulnerable to support them to achieve their basic right. Rights such as clean water, food, shelter, education, basic health services; and a voice in decision-making. Many people ActionAid work with face not only poverty, but also exclusion and discrimination. They include widows and orphans, women whose rights are violated in a myriad of ways, former child soldiers, ethnic minorities, tribal peoples and those fighting landlessness, natural disasters, modern slavery and HIV/AIDS. |
