We set off from London at the beginning of July 2006 and head
to France, crossing water for the last time for 7 months. From France we cross next to Belgium, south to Luxembourg, back into France again and
then into Switzerland.
From here we start heading directly east to Liechtenstein, Austria,
Slovakia, Romania and Hungary, before going south to Bulgaria. Ending our
European journey, we welcome the delights of the Middle East. First
Turkey, then Iran, Pakistan, India and Nepal. We then head north into the
Tibetan Himalayas, catching a glimpse of the magnificent Mount Everest as
we pass.
After Tibet we head south-east through China and then into Laos. We then journey south and into Thailand, before cutting east and into Cambodia and Vietnam. We then double back to Cambodia and Thailand, taking a quick dip into Myanmar (we can't drive in Myanmar or Vietnam - the latter because we have a RHD vehicle and the former purely down to government restrictions). |
From Thailand here we begin our final stretch south into Malaysia and Singapore.
We plan to island-hop through Indonesia and then ship the vehicle to
Darwin for the final country on the agenda. We expect the journey will take 10 months to a year, covering
approximately 35000km. We adjusted our original trip to encompass Borneo also and given the tremendous prices we were quoted by shipping companies, abandoned the idea of shipping the vehicle through Indonesia - resorting to public transport. Also, instead of landing in Darwin we decided for Perth and then head around the north. Hopefully!
